Commercial Class B License

A Commercial Class B license is a type of commercial driver's license (CDL) issued in the United States for individuals who want to operate vehicles that:

Weigh between 26,001 and 33,000 pounds (GVWR – Gross Vehicle Weight Rating), or

Carry a load of 16 or more passengers (including the driver), or

Transport hazardous materials (depending on the specific type of cargo).

The Class B CDL allows the holder to drive single vehicles that fall into these categories, as well as certain types of vehicles that may tow other vehicles, as long as the total combined weight is less than 26,001 pounds.

Straight trucks, such as delivery trucks or dump trucks

Buses, including transit buses, school buses, and charter buses

Large box trucks or cargo vans

Tow trucks (under certain weight limits)
